Brand Colors, Blue Edition: The Best Blue Promotional Products

Choosing colors for your brand is one of the most important things you’ll do. Your brand colors will inform your logo and signage, and also influence the way your brand shows up in promotional products. Every color carries certain meanings, so it’s critical to ensure that the hues you choose send the right message.

Today, we’re talking all about the color blue. Read on to learn more about what the color blue means and what kinds of businesses can benefit from this shade—plus, discover some of our favorite blue promotional products.

What Does the Color Blue Mean?

Blue carries many positive associations—such as trust, responsibility, honesty, and peacefulness. Take a look around and consider where you see blue in your daily life. It’s the uniform color of police officers and many healthcare workers; it’s easily found in nature (just look up at the sky or across the sea!).

Like any color, blue comes in a range of shades, each of which can be used accordingly. Darker blues carry more weight and seriousness, and lighter hues convey brightness and simplicity. Think back to those dark blue police uniforms and light blue hospital scrubs—while they’re both the same color, the shades evoke different feelings, while still representing responsibility and dependability.

What Types of Businesses Should Use Blue?

Blue is a versatile color—and comes in so many shades—that it can be great for just about any type of business. But because blue carries certain meanings and associations, it can be an ideal fit for businesses in specific industries:

  • Because it signifies trust and dependability, the color blue is one of the best choices for businesses in the financial, healthcare, and travel sectors.
  • The natural, organic associations of blue make it a great choice for nature-based businesses.
  • Because blue evokes feelings of calmness and security, it can also be a smart choice for yoga studios or med-spas.

Though blue has primarily positive associations, it can also represent sadness. (Winter blues, anyone?) So, if your business is all about enjoyment and high-energy, blue—especially a darker shade—might not be the best brand color for you. Blue has also been found to be the least appetizing color, so it may not be the best choice for a restaurant logo.

Because blue is such a universally loved color, it makes an appearance in many brand logos. Think: Facebook, Skype, Lowe’s, Volkswagen, Venmo, United Airlines, Chase Bank, and PayPal.
