National Pen Donates 15,000 Face Masks to the Irish Red Cross

As a global company with facilities in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, National Pen is dedicated to serving local communities.

Beginning in April, National Pen Ireland formed a partnership with the Irish Red Cross (IRC) to contribute necessary supplies, like medical grade face masks and antimicrobial pens. In response to COVID-19, the IRC volunteers have been delivering vital prescription medications and food supplies to older and vulnerable people who are unable to leave their homes. The IRC is also helping people get to hospital appointments and is working with a number of community organisations, including the HSE and charities to provide further support to those who need it.

To date, the donation amount has reached 15,000 face masks and hundreds of pens to be used as the IRC team carries out vital community work locally in Dundalk and across the country.

Of the partnership, Community Support Officer Barry Kane says,

“We are truly grateful for our partnership with National Pen during this pandemic. As the country enters phase two of the easing of restrictions, we are seeing a higher demand from people requiring our services to help them get to hospital and medical appointments, and these face masks will be vital in enabling our volunteers to assist those we serve safely.”

And as for the pens, they come in handy as IRC volunteers fill out plenty of paperwork throughout their days. Plus, because the pens are antimicrobial, they prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, mold, and some viruses, which is crucial at this time.
