As mentioned above, trending color changing products found their way onto the scene in the 70s, specifically 1975. They were created basically by accident by Joshua Reynolds, a marketing executive from New York City.
Reynolds was researching biofeedback, which is the electronic monitoring of human body functions, and realized he could harness that power to make money with mood rings. He manufactured real silver and gold mood rings and sold them for up to $250 a piece at department stores! This kicked off the mood ring and color changing items trend.
